7 November 2023, Bangkok – depa, in collaboration with partners from both public and private sector stakeholders, spearheaded a representatives of finest Thai game industry entrepreneurs to showcase their achievements through the Business Day (B2B) activities at Gamescom Asia 2023 in Singapore. This event is the largest gaming expo in the Southeast Asian region, aligning with government’s unwavering commitment to prioritize Soft Power as national priority, with particular emphasis on the digital content industry. Preparing to unlock the boundless potential of Thai game industry entrepreneurs, establishing their global recognition. Preliminary assessments indicate that this event holds the potential to generate business value exceeding 1,300 million baht.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) has revealed that the Thai gaming industry in the year 2022 achieved a remarkable total value of 34,556 billion baht, reflecting an impressive growth rate of 12% over the past five years (2018 – 2022). However, it is worth noting that the value of imported games from foreign developers, both on PC and mobile platforms, continues to represent a substantial share of 97% in the industry’s total worth. This figure surpasses the value of exports for consumer consumption. Consequently, depa has undertaken a transformational collaboration with partners from both the public and private sectors to raise awareness and establish a platform for showcasing Thai gaming accomplishment, which are recognized as high-potential export products for the nation. Along with providing support on business negotiations and enabling participation in global gaming events.
depa, in collaboration with the Department of International Trade Promotion at Singapore, Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and the Thai Game Software Industry Association (TGA) led a team of ten Thai game industry entrepreneurs, including Bugblio Studio, Debuz, FairPlay Studios, Nanuq, REDSENSATIONGAMES, Revolution Industry, The Monk Games, Vonder Games, WBB Studio, and Yggdrazil Group, under the name of ‘Thailand Pavilion’. Representatives are actively participated in the Business Day (B2B) activities at Gamescom Asia 2023,
the largest gaming expo in Southeast Asia, held in Singapore from October 19 to 22, which gather individuals from diverse nationalities within the gaming industry, including Spain, the Netherlands, Japan, Singapore, China, and others, to participate in showcasing their works, business negotiations, forums, and pitching sessions. This event attracted over 34,000 attendees and 136 exhibitors from 67 countries worldwide.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon stated that the Business Day (B2B) activities at Gamescom Asia 2023 marked depa’s debut in a trade event, following the subsiding of the COVID-19 pandemic. This event holds a crucial opportunity for Thai game industry entrepreneurs to gain recognition on a global scale, establish confidence, build networks for future business partnerships, investments, product sales, and outsourcing opportunities, all of which contribute significantly to increasing the export value of Thai game products and money circulation within the Thai economy. Thailand Pavilion has received an overwhelmingly positive response from industry stakeholders, including investors, game developers, distributors, and media outlets. It is estimated that Thailand Pavilion has the potential to generate business value through business negotiation from the B2B activities at Gamescom Asia 2023, exceeding 1,300 million baht.
